Campaign History 1970 To 1985

Jan. 1970	Dynamo (age 18) joins Sigma Squad.
April 10, 1970	American Eagle II leaves the Minutemen and goes to Chicago to start a new group.
Jan. 15, 1971	Aswan Dam on the Nile River is dedicated.
March 1971	Janet Long (age 18) arrives from China and goes to work for the United Nations as an interpreter.
May 14, 1971	Freedom Squad formed in Chicago by American Eagle II. Other members are Black Phantom and Hardhat.
August 1971	Dynamo (Peter Dugan) and Janet Long meet when she is recruited by Protector to be Sigma Squad's translator in a case involving a Chinese supervillain.  The two of them hit it off and are soon dating steadily.
Oct. 13, 1971	The wealthy Medina family gives their two twin children, Isabella (Mentalla) and Alexandro (Menton) to the evil scientist known as Dr. Destroyer. Destroyer indoctrinates the children and bonds them with alien entities in his psionics program.
Dec. 1971	Peter Dugan and Janet Long are married.
July 1972	Due to her increasingly important duties at NASA, Caroline Blanchard retires as Blue Beacon II. Peter and Janet Dugan have a daughter, Holly.
Feb. 1973	Protector is killed in a battle with a supervillain. Sonicman takes over as leader of Sigma Squad. Matrix disappears.
March 1973	Lady Lazer joins Sigma Squad.
June 17, 1973	The Transmuter joins the Zodiac as Libra.
Feb. 1974	Barricade decides to leave Sigma Squad.
March 3, 1974	Dr. Thomas and Martha Wayne are slain during an armed robbery. Their son, Bruce, survives but is not able to identify his parents murderer.
May 1974	Titan joins Sigma Squad.
June 17, 1974	The Swordfish is sunk in the Marianas Trench in a battle with Professor Masterson and his phony Atlantis. Masterson is defeated, however, and there are no casualties.
June 1974	The U.S. government begins full scale testing and evaluation of potential agents for PRIUMS.
Sept. 1974	In the turmoil of Watergate, the Avengers are implicated in several charges of conspiracy and the group is disbanded in a furor of public opinion. It is later discovered that Dr. Ruby manufactured the evidence against the hero group with the assistance of several members of Congress.
April 21, 1975	Crusader begins his crimefighting career by bringing in three known cop-killers.
April 30, 1975	Vietnam War ends.
July 18, 1975	Crusader stops the rampage of a government “Ubermensch” subject (from the super-soldier program) who had gone insane. The soldier dies when he falls from the top of the Empire State Building.
Dec. 14, 1975	Thok crash lands on Earth and is captured by NASA.
Jan. 21, 1976	In East Germany, Fiacho recruits Durak as the first member of his new supervillain team Eurostar.
Feb. 2, 1976	Thok escapes from the Department of Defense.
Sept. 1976	PRIMUS officially begins operations.
Oct. 13, 1976	Eurostar becomes a trio as Bora joins in Rome.
Oct. 14, 1976	Fiacho introduces Pantera, who he had encountered the night before, to the rest of Eurostar. She joins the team and the villains leave Rome.
Dec. 2, 1976	Eurostar break Le Sone out of prison to add him to the team as a gadgeteer.
Feb. 17, 1977	Eurostar raids a Russian Gold Depository, soundly defeating the Russian hero Ivan.
April 27, 1977	The detective who would become Sagittarius discovers the existence of the Zodiac and joins them.
June 16, 1977	Eurostar attacks an UNTIL base in France, killing 36 agents and stealing vital computer codes.
March 10, 1978	Eurostar finishes building is base in Switzerland.
July 13, 1978	Taurus recruits a rock musician to join the Zodiac as Leo.
Sept. 2, 1978	The Golden Avenger makes his first public appearance on television during a presidential press conference announcing his existence as America’s foremost protector and hero.
April 29, 1979	VIPER agents, after attempting to track down Crimebuster, capture his son, Dr. Elias James McQuark. They attempt to get him to work for them, but he is rescued by the hero Radion just in time.
Jan. 13, 1980	The Minutemen officially disband.
Feb. 12, 1980	Firewing comes to Earth. PRIMUS moves to intercept him and 23 agents are killed.
Feb. 14, 1980	Firewing makes it to San Francisco where he is confronted by a group of heroes. Firewing is defeated, and the heroes form the Guardians.
Feb. 22, 1980	Despite placing a paranormal athlete on their team, the Soviet Union’s hockey team is defeated by the United States in the Winter Olympics.
March 13, 1980	Taurus and Leo of the Zodiac interrupt the ninja assassin Antares in mid-assignment. After a brief battle, the assassin is force to join the group as Scorpio.
May 2, 1980	Sir John Aleister, a British noble and well-known mutant (who would one day become the villain White Flame), is imprisoned for the vigilante murder of his wife’s killers.
Aug. 3, 1980	Nuetron attempts to create a mind-control device, but the experiment fails. However, the resulting accident gives Arc his powers, and he joins Neutron.
Sept 1980	Sabrina Fairchild enters college.
Oct. 13, 1980	Dr. McQuark’s Superhero Supply and Gymnasium officially opens for business.
Nov. 1980	Ronald Reagan, with the largest landslide in history, is swept into office to become the 40th President of the United States. Many points of his campaign are directed at making America strong again, including a strong defense, a healthy economy and the development and encouragement of superheroes. In his inaugural speech a few months later, he announces his intentions to appoint a new cabinet position specifically to deal with paranormal activity and to advise the President in his dealings with them. A few short weeks later, he does just that by appointing Arthur Stravorski as the first Secretary of Paranormal Affairs.
Jan. 26, 1981	UNTIL attacks and takes over the base of KRONOS, putting them out of “business.” Mechassassin escapes with their new armored suit to begin his career of crime.
Feb. 1981	President Reagan approves the formation of the U.S. covert super-strike team, Force-1. Members are classified.
March 13, 1981	Violet Lotus is recruited by Capricorn to join the Zodiac as Virgo.
June 5, 1981	The Project Sunburst experiment is conducted.
June 7, 1981	Sunburst kills all of the military personnel around him during his debriefing after Project Sunburst. He and the other survivors of the project go off to form the supervillain group of the same name.
July 27, 1981	Professor Muerte creates the villain Giganto. The two battle, and Muerte wins, subduing Giganto to psychologically condition him into serving the mastermind.
Nov. 10, 1981	Binder manages to establish a partnership with Plasmoid. Binder refers to them as the Ultimates.
Nov. 13, 1981	The Conquerors are born as Anklyosaur and Wyvern join Neutron and Arc.
Feb. 10, 1982	Scorpia officially becomes a member of Terror, Inc.
April 2, 1982	The Ultimates run into Black Star while robbing a shipment of gold. They join forces.
May 10, 1982	The Swordfish II, the first of a fleet of such crimefighting/exploratory craft, is launched by UNTIL.
June 3, 1982	Exo-Skeleton Man joins forces with Foxbat.
June 30, 1982	The Ultimates attack Charger, and Charger ends up joining the group.
July 13, 1982	Eric Rahn finds the Earth Crown of Krim and becomes the Earthmaster.
Sept. 12, 1982	Bullet and Big John join forces.
Jan. 5, 1983	The Guardians battle the Ultimates in San Francisco. The Ultimates lose but none are captured.
Feb. 10, 1983	The Ultimates break Slick out of jail and he gratefully joins their ranks.
Feb. 15, 1983	Herculan lands on Earth.
March 3, 1983	VOICE supervillains attack Bullet and Big John. Starseer becomes accidentally involved and joins Bullet and Big John, forming the Raiders.
Nov. 6, 1983	Peter Thronson dies. Sabrina first uses her powers to fight crime.
Feb. 4, 1984	AVAR-7 lands on Earth and decides to become a superhero.
March 1984	The Protectors of Los Angeles are formed.  Founding members are Lotus, Dynamo, Captain Camouflage, Lightsaber and Alex 2000.
March 2, 1984	Steve Rogers Jr. is given the “Vita-Ray” treatment and begins training to become Captain America.
May 1984	Sabrina Fairchild graduates from college with Masters Degree.
May 10, 1984	The Swordfish agents stop an invasion of Bermuda by Atlantis before it gets a chance to start.
June 28, 1984	Dark Thunder I makes 1st public appearance.
July 4, 1984	Captain America II makes 1st public appearance
Aug. 8, 1984	Stacey Summer and Ito (Samurai) Kenji marry. Ito retires from superheroing and takes his wife back to his family’s ancestral estate in Japan to live.
Aug. 15, 1984	Dr. Ruby decides to test a new weapon before placing it for sale on the black market. He sends a giant robot into New York City to wreak havoc. Dark Thunder, Captain America II and Donarr manage to stop its rampage and destroy it. Dr. Ruby, however, escapes. In the aftermath of the battle, the heroes resolve themselves to the defense of their country, the world and all mankind and become the New Avengers! (Avengers Vol. 2 #1)
Aug. 25, 1984	Merlinia makes 1st public appearance. (Merlinia #1)
Sept. 6, 1984	The New Avengers move into Avengers Mansion which is donated by SKT, their new sponsor. SKT is owned by John (Dark Thunder) Charger. Leopard, Fireyes, Merlinia Gargoyle and Starshine are recruited into the group and the old charter is once again adopted.
Sept. 8, 1984	Superman makes 1st public appearance.
Sept. 16, 1984	Sorcerer Supreme makes first modern appearance when Sabrina Fairchild accidentally releases him from imprisonment.
Sept. 26, 1984	Samurai is killed by a bomb planted in his bedroom by VIPER. His wife, Stacey, survives.
Sept. 30, 1984	Merlinia joins the Avengers.
Oct. 1984	Formed by Sorcerer Supreme, The League of Doom makes their first appearance, attacking and defeating the Avengers. This organization seems to have come from nowhere, boasting well trained agents and the largest assembly of supervillains ever: Sorcerer Supreme, Howler, Weapon Master, Peregrine, Diamondhead, Airacobra, Armadillo, Solvent, Roulette, Iron Maiden, Mind Slayer and Manticore. In order to protect their headquarters, the Avengers have a robot constructed as a security guard. They contract a young Matthew Armbruster to build the construct. It, however, develops artificial intelligence and attempts to kill the Avengers and take over the world. The Avengers barely manage to stop it but the world will again be plagued by the menace of Mechanon!
Oct. 6-8, 1984	Key to Reality affair. The Key is believed to be destroyed.
Oct 24, 1984	Sorcerer Supreme and the Legion of Doom try to summon the Kraken of Myth. The Avengers stop them.
Nov. 1984	Howard “Hal” Silva is nearly killed in the crash of an experimental plane. His body is stolen by Mechanon, who implants a mystic gem in his chest and sends him to join the Avengers as Red Lightning.
Nov. 17, 1984	Red Skull makes 1st modern appearance.
Nov. 20, 1984	Red Lightning makes 1st public appearance.
Nov. 30, 1984	The first Stronghold facility opens in the desert of New Mexico.
Dec. 1, 1984	Island of Dr. Destroyer affair.
Dec. 2, 1984	Red Lightning betrays the Avengers into a trap by Mechanon.
Dec. 3, 1984	Red Lightning apparently sacrifices himself to save the Avengers. Services are held the next day.
Dec. 24, 1984	Red Lightning reappears.
Jan. 1984	Captain Camouflage is killed by mercenaries operating on behalf of the supervillain Lucifer.
Jan. 1, 1985	The Red Skull initiates a plan to control the world’s weather.
Jan. 3,1985	The Red Skull is defeated by the Avengers, apparently perishing in the explosion of his control satellite.
Jan. 4, 1985	Crusader makes 1st public appearance.
Jan. 24, 1985	Nighthawk (1) makes 1st public appearance.
Jan. 27, 1985	Hellspawn makes 1st appearance.
Feb. 6, 1985	Merlinia receives the Staff of Meltocoles.
Feb. 11, 1985	A large number of inmates break out of Stronghold.
Feb. 28, 1985	The being knows as Time Master is created in a laboratory explosion. This fact is not revealed for many years.
March 1985	Lady Lazer and Goldendude join the Protectors, bringing them up to strength. The group immediately sets about tracking down and capturing Lucifer.  They succeed. Mysterious sightings of a giant bat begin in Gotham City, NJ.
March 4, 1985	The Osirans arrive on Earth, capturing Merlinia and conditioning her to believe she is the goddess Isis. The Avengers confront the Osirans and rescue Merlinia.
March 5, 1985	The Osirans move to Mars saying that they will wait there for mankind.
March 13, 1985	Merlinia helps clears Bushman of murder charges. A villainous clown known as the Joker murders a prominent Gotham City politician.
March 16, 1985	Merlinia receives Perry as a ‘thank you’ from Bushman.
March 20, 1985	The Joker is found bound and gagged, dangling from a light post outside of Gotham City police headquarters. He claims he was captured by a man dressed as a bat. The tabloids proclaim this mysterious person the Bat-man.
March 30, 1985	Ladybug attacks Dark Thunder in Manhattan and humiliates him.
April 4, 1985	The first part of Deathstroke’s plan to rule the world begins.
April 8, 1985	Vampirella meets Nighthawk.
April 11, 1985	Merlinia joins the Circle. 1st appearance of the Circle.
April 13, 1985	Gamma Leader makes 1st appearance.
May 16, 1985	Dragonman makes 1st public appearance.
May 20, 1985	The Athenian makes her 1st public appearance.
June 1985	Alliance of Soviet Paranormals forms.
June 18, 1985	Crimson Chronicles found.
June 20, 1985	Black Bolt killed(?)
June 21, 1985	Protectors make 1st public appearance. (Nighthawk and the Protectors #1)
July 2, 1985	Merlinia meets Angelique De Medici.
July 5, 1985	Merlinia frees Dr. Fate (1st modern appearance.) Verdaemon makes 1st appearance. Dr. Quietus makes 1st appearance.
July 6, 1985	Pyro is killed. Star Rider makes 1st appearance.
July 9, 1985	Esmeralda Lawrence is apparently killed. The Idol of Chaos is destroyed.
July 11, 1985	Chaos is defeated and cast back into the Nether Void.
July 22, 1985	Leopard joins the Protectors.
July 26, 1985	Paralyzer joins the Protectors (1st appearance.)
July 28, 1985	1st appearance of Jaguar and Wild Wind. Merlinia gets new costume. (Stage magician look.) Starfire rejoins Avengers.
Aug. 3, 1985	Merlinia is elected chair of the Avengers.
Aug. 11, 1985	Force-1 (1st team) makes 1st public appearance. (Force-1 #1)
Aug. 21, 1985	Force-1 meets Dr. Destroyer.
Aug. 30, 1985	Timemaster freed.
Aug. 30, 1985	Radion leaves the Guardians.
Sept. 1, 1985	Black Knight makes 1st public appearance, joins Force-1.
Oct. 9, 1985	Dark Thunder II joins the Avengers.
Nov. 1985	The Challengers form in Chicago. Members are Gargoyle (formerly of the Avengers) Gem, Stellar Man and Pixie.
Nov. 3, 1985	Feur joins Terror, Inc.
Dec. 24, 1985	Planeload of children rescued by heroes.
Dec. 31, 1985	1st appearance of Gold Wing.
