Campaign History 1996 To 2006

March 24, 1996	The Harbinger is captured in San Francisco but escapes in transit to police headquarters.
April 5, 1996	Daryl Stevenson announces he will return to the race for the Presidency.
April 7, 1996	Black Paladin is pronounced dead at Stronghold. The cause of death was apparently strangulation. Paranormal Registration Act moves out of committee, ready for a vote by the House.
April 8, 1996	PRIMUS opens office is Hudson City.
April 20, 1996	Presidential candidate Daryl Stevenson promises an increase in funding for PRIMUS, if elected.
May 1, 1996	A group of heroes led by Superman request permission to address Congress on the Superbeing Registration Act.
May 2, 1996	Captain Atlas II makes his first appearance.
May 16, 1996	The Change. Craig (T.O.F.U.) Hanlin returns from Hell. The exposure to such an element drove his fear of water to the back of his mind, never to bother him again. Abyssia re-emerges into our universe.
May 17, 1996	Realizing that all the things he cares for in the world have been in front of him all along, Craig (T.O.F.U.) Hanlin decides to devote more of his free time to his personal life and retires.
June 19, 1996	A catastrophic earthquake nearly levels San Francisco.
July 4, 1996	Merlinia and Captain America’s child is born on Otherworld.
July 12, 1996	After a year long courtship, Craig Hanlin proposes to Marion (Rainbow Archer) Locksley. She accepts.
July 16, 1996	Joey (Cyberpunk) Hanlin stumbles onto a bit of programming code buried deep in the Internet. Being curious, he traces the code to a small island in the South China Sea. The link is cut from the outside, so Joey brings this news to his brother Craig. Using technology borrowed from the Caretaker, Craig manages to trace the code again. The code turns out to be part of a rebuilding cycle program belonging to Mechanon. Remembering his vow to shut Mechanon down for good, Craig sets to work.
July 20, 1996	American Eagle II retires.
Aug. 22, 1996	Superman, Xax, the Wondroid and other heroes reveal that they are extraterrestrials. This announcement helps calm worldwide fears that erupted in the face of the Great Revelation.
Sept. 2, 1996	After long weeks of tireless work, Craig Hanlin traces Mechanon’s personal Worldnet and has set up program barriers to all the known factories. All that is left to do is eliminate the current Mechanon and he will be unable to rebuild, neutralizing the threat to life on this planet.
Oct. 1, 1996	Dr. Fate leads a small group of mystics, including Merlinia, and makes a similar announcement to the one made a month and a half by Superman and other extraterrestrial heroes. The mystics urge calm, tolerance and understanding. They also warn of false mystics that may take advantage of the recent upheaval to prey upon the ignorant and desperate.
Oct. 23, 1996	Mechanon attempts to steal an experimental cadmium bomb from the White Sands testing grounds. The Avengers attack and destroy Mechanon’s body, but not before he can set the bomb for detonation. T.O.F.U uses his suit teleporter to send the bomb to high orbit where it detonates harmlessly. The T.O.F.U. armor is destroyed.
Oct. 31, 1996	During a Halloween party at the Avengers Mansion, the Midnight Judges attack. Pumpkin Jack announces that he will kill all the partygoers unless he is given the Mys-Tech Dimension Portal Device. Bane arrives and the heroes battle the villains. During the fight, Bane loses a hand and an eye, but Pumpkin Jack is apparently destroyed. Bane goes into seclusion.
Nov. 1, 1996	A woman is found burned at the stake. A note nearby alleges the woman was a “witch” and is signed “a Pure Son of Earth.”
Nov. 5, 1996	Daryl Stevenson elected 43rd president of the United States, defeating Republican candidate Bob Dole.
Jan. 1997	Dr. Ibis moves to Cairo, Egypt.
May 23, 1997	Atlantis announces its existence to the world. Prince Tak’errik (Sea Guard) is appointed ambassador to the United Nations.
July 1, 1997	Hong Kong reunited with China after 99 years as a British overseas territory.
Oct. 1997	Donarr returns to Norway. He has not been heard from since.
Jan. 2, 1998	Gamma Leader is found dead of unknown causes. His body remains highly radioactive and has not deteriorated since its discovery.
Feb. 14, 1998	Scorpia and Feuermacher murder Professor Muerte, loot and destroy his facilities, and defect from Terror, Inc. to join Eurostar.
March 24, 1998	The Reverend Elder passes away quietly in his retreat. Most of the world’s mystics, including many old enemies, travel to Tibet to pay homage to his memory. This period of grace lasts for 2 weeks. Vincent Dimitrios then assumes the role of Archmage of Earth.
Nov. 1998	Shanna Armbruster is elected to the Senate and appointed to Chair the Division M Oversight Committee.
Dec. 4, 1998	The Metruns launch a giant asteroid towards the Earth as a precursor to an invasion. The Asteroid is destroyed by Quantum at the expense of her powers. The incident motivates the United Nations to fund research into planetary defense systems. Many countries and people have objected to the idea of placement of weaponry in space citing that the weapons might be turned towards targets on the Earth.
May7, 1999	Sapphire’s mutant powers manifest.
July 15, 1999	Mark Whitaker (Nighthawk 2) is injured in a VIPER attack on Millennium City University; inspired by the event, he becomes a crimefighter.
Sept. 18, 1999	The Avengers’ Space Platform is officially opened. A distress call is received from a fleet of starships on the edge of the solar system. When the Avengers investigate, they discover a legion of Baloren warriors are hidden aboard the ships as part of a sneak attack against Earth. With Star Knight Acaraa’s help the plan fails. Three of the ships are salvaged and sent to Earth for study and repair. Earth stands on the threshold of becoming a star-faring civilization.
Sept. 21, 1999	Bastion (Bane) returns to Hudson City and assists Darkness, Blackfire and Vampirella in apprehending several Demonz gang members who have taken hostages after a botched robbery of a pharmaceutical company. One of the gangers is later found hanging from a lamppost, eviscerated.
Oct. 8, 1999	Acaraa is sent to Earth by her father as an ambassador/consultant. She joins the Avengers. The Avengers stop Professor Muerte from freeing the other members of Terror, Inc. from Stronghold. Professor Muerte is captured.
Oct. 12, 1999	The military takes control of the Pakistan government. India’s military forces are placed on a state of high alert.
November, 1999	The Champions move to Detroit.
November 23, 1999	Detroit is officially re-christened Millennium City.
February 8, 2000	The Avengers are alerted to the “resurrection” of Mechanon. When they attempt to stop him from releasing nanites designed to turn organic matter into metal, Acaraa is infected by them. The Avengers quarantine her on the orbital platform and call in the greatest scientific minds on Earth.
February 9, 2000	In an unusual move, the Galactic Star Knights blockade Earth claiming that the nanite infestation cannot be allowed to escape Earth. Dr. Reed Richards, Craig Hanlin, Matt Armbruster and others stop Mechanon’s nanites and save Acaraa’s life. Acaraa’s left hand has been transformed into metal but it is functional.
February 11, 2000	The Avengers repel an attack on the captured starship by the Star Knights from the blockade. This was apparently their goal all along. Retaliation by the full strength of the blockade task force is stopped upon the arrival of a fleet of Star Knight Shield-ships led by the Green Lantern Xax. The blockade ships retire claiming the incident to be a “misunderstanding”.
March 7, 2000	The results of the “Super-Tuesday” primary election give the Republican presidential nomination to Senator Jeremiah Relm. Relm selects business mogul Lex Luthor as his running mate.
May 19, 2000	Presidential candidate Jerimiah Relm vows that, if elected, he will push forward with the plan to create a system of defense satellites to defend against asteroids as well as “other” threats.
June, 2000	Shanna and Matt Armbruster are named two of People’s “100 Most Beautiful People”. Other people on the list include actor Morgan Freeman, model/fashion designer Elizabeth Braddock, philanthropist Bruce Wayne and journalist Lois Lane.
Nov. 7, 2000	In the most closely contested election in American history, Jeremiah Relm is elected 44th president of the United States defeating Democratic contender Al Gore. Relm ran on a platform of security and rebuilding for the United States and vowed that the government would rein in paranormals.
Jan. 31, 2001	Newly sworn in President Relm introduces his version of the Metahuman Registration Act. It is met with lukewarm response.
Sept. 11, 2001	Metahuman suicide terrorists attack the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon in Washington, DC. The World Trade Center towers collapse and the Pentagon sustains massive damage. A fourth attempt, apparently aimed at the White House, is stopped by the Avengers.
October 2001	The Patriot Act and the Metahuman Registration Act are passed by Congress.
Jan. 1, 2002	The Euro is introduced as the monetary unit of the European Union. Vanguard, a French superhero group, stops Eurostar from stealing the first shipment of the new bills.
May 24, 2002	Doc Photon kills Energizer during a battle between VOICE and the Avengers. Shatter takes full responsibility and steps down as chairman.
August 12, 2002	The Avengers refuse to turn over their personal information and identities. The NSC revokes the Avengers’ Priority Security clearance.
August 14, 2002	The Avengers officially disband.
Feb. 20, 2003	Captain Britain joins the New Knights of the Round Table.
April 10, 2003	The Metropolis City Council makes a resolution that they will not assist federal authorities in the apprehension of any unregistered metahuman superheroes. The Relm administration issues a statement that they will respect the resolution. Many attribute the popularity of Superman as the reason the government acquiesced.
July 4, 2004	Superman speaks at the Metropolis Independence Day celebration and reminds everyone that metahuman rights are human rights.
Nov. 2, 2004	President Jeremiah Relm is re-elected president of the United States. He defeats Democratic Senator Shanna Armbruster, the first woman in a major party to run for the presidency.
March 8, 2005	Former Avenger, Kilroy, is fatally wounded by police when he tries to flee after foiling a robbery at a LexCorp lab. Metahuman rights activists are outraged.
Dec. 2005	Renewal of the Patriot Act and the Metahuman Registration Act is delayed. Both are temporarily extended into the new year.
Jan. 31, 2006	President Relm delivers his State of the Union address and calls upon Congress to renew both the Patriot and the Metahuman Registration Act.
Feb. 2, 2006	President Relm reveals that metahumans have been used for surveillance on American citizens.
Feb. 17. 2006	The Avengers re-form under special dispensation from the White House in order to combat the apparent returning threat of Overlord. The Avengers travel to Overlord’s island where they sabotage the missiles he threatened to use. They also battle Lady Power who Overlord hoped to draw out with his ruse.
Feb. 20, 2006	The Avengers fly to the Philippines to assist with disaster relief after massive landslides.
Feb. 24, 2006	Captain America I appears on Larry King Live and emphasizes that the mission of the Avengers has not changed; the team exists to protect the Earth from enemies within and without.
March 3, 2006	1st appearance of Abraxas. Abraxas, Commodore and Marie DeBray join the Avengers. Shatter rejoins the Avengers. Entropi is defeated in Australia by the Avengers. Entropi is imprisoned in crystal and taken to Otherworld by Merlin.
March 7, 2006	A poll in People magazine indicates that Americans view superheroes more favorably than a year ago. A New York Times poll gives similar results.
March 12, 2006	Commodore, Marie DeBray and the crew of the Captain Blood assist the U.S. Navy in capturing pirates off the coast of Africa.
March 14, 2006	Captain America I battles Black Harlequin and keeps him from distributing his deadly toys through a dummy corporation. Black Harlequin escapes.
March 15-17, 2006	Members of the Avengers receive invitations to attend the St. Patrick’s Day festival in Belfast, Ireland.  There they combat the Banshee of Death with help from Shamrock, Captain Britain and Banshee. Flash II rejoins the Avengers.
